Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

The preview shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
